Frequently Asked Questions

Security, data, banking, and everyday questions about OfficeTidy.

Security & Data Protection

Yes. All data is encrypted in transit (industry-standard TLS, the same protocol used for online banking) and sensitive fields โ€” customer names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, job notes, pricing details โ€” are also encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption before they're ever written to our database. Your login is protected by Firebase Authentication, the same secure identity platform used by major apps worldwide.

Bank Connection (Akahu) & IRD Security

Yes. Bank connections go through Akahu, New Zealand's regulated open banking platform โ€” the same technology category used by budgeting and accounting apps across NZ. Your online banking username and password are never seen, entered, or stored by OfficeTidy at any point; you log in directly with your bank via Akahu's own secure screen.

Where Is My Data Stored?

OfficeTidy runs on Google Cloud/Firebase infrastructure โ€” the same enterprise-grade platform trusted by businesses worldwide โ€” rather than a private in-house server. Data is hosted in Google's Asia-Pacific (Singapore) region, the closest available region to New Zealand.

Offline Use, Storage & Data Usage

Yes. The app keeps a full local copy of your data on your device, so you can view customers, open bookings, and record new jobs, notes, and payments while offline. Everything you do offline is queued and automatically synced the next time you're back online.

Advertising & Third Parties

No. OfficeTidy has no advertising of any kind and never will โ€” it's a paid business tool, not an ad-supported app.

A Few More Common Questions

Not directly through your OfficeTidy login unless you add them as a staff user. The usual way to share figures with an accountant is via the Xero sync โ€” connect Xero and your accountant works from there as normal.
