Bank Accounts & Automatic Reconciliation

Connect Akahu so payments are matched to invoices automatically, without giving up your banking login.

What Akahu is

Akahu is New Zealand's open-banking platform. OfficeTidy uses Akahu to securely link your bank accounts so customer payments can be matched to unpaid invoices automatically โ€” without OfficeTidy ever seeing your online-banking login.

๐Ÿ”’ Bank access is ongoing and read-only, and you can revoke it at any time. Your bank authentication is handled by Akahu, not OfficeTidy.

Connecting your bank

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Bank Integration.
  2. Tap Connect Bank. A consent screen explains that OfficeTidy uses Akahu to connect securely, fetch transactions for reconciling paid invoices, and maintain ongoing read-only access that you can revoke at any time.
  3. Tap I Understand, Connect Bank. You'll be taken to Akahu's secure connection screen; your actual bank credentials never touch OfficeTidy.
  4. Choose your bank and the accounts you want to connect. When finished, you'll be returned to OfficeTidy with the connection active.

Once connected

The Bank Integration screen shows:

  • Status: Connected to Akahu
  • Manage / Add Banks โ€” connect additional accounts, manage existing connections, or reconnect
  • Connected Accounts โ€” each linked account's name, account number, live balance, and connection status

If Akahu loses access to an account โ€” usually because the bank login details have changed โ€” a warning banner appears with a one-tap Reconnect.

Automatic reconciliation

Turn on Enable Automatic Sync to check for new transactions every six hours and automatically match incoming payments against unpaid invoices.

  • Enabling automatic sync also requests notification permission so OfficeTidy can tell you when a payment has been matched.
  • The status shows Active (Instant Cloud Sync) while the feature is enabled โ€” new transactions may also arrive through instant cloud sync instead of waiting for the next six-hour check.

Reviewing transactions

Open the Reconcile screen to view the running list of imported bank transactions. A balance summary sits at the top (tap to expand/collapse), with account tabs to filter and a search bar to find a specific transaction.

Money coming in โ€” tap an unmatched incoming transaction (e.g. a customer payment) to open Reconcile Earning: search for unpaid invoices by customer, invoice number, or amount, tick one or more to apply the payment to, and confirm. A single bank deposit can be split across several invoices.

Money going out โ€” tap an unmatched outgoing transaction to choose Create Business Expense, Create Home Expense, or Link to Existing Expense.

Reviewing or undoing a match โ€” already-matched transactions show a link icon; tap one to see the full reconciliation details, or long-press and choose Unlink to undo the match.

Hiding transactions โ€” swipe a transaction to hide it from the list (with an UNDO option), useful for internal transfers that will never need reconciling.

Disconnecting your bank

Settings โ†’ Bank Integration โ†’ Disconnect Bank. You can reconnect at any time.
